Tis the season. The most wonderful time of the year. Road time. Finally unchained from the leaden weight of winter and exhausted from the effort of clenching every muscle against the cold, I sprang free of the bunker in April and have been on the fly since. Most of this spring and summer have been spent herding rogue loose ends of various projects, and now I can resume my glorious love affair with the hot curving asphalt stretched out before me.
This week, it’s another banzai run to the Portland/Vancouver area to shoot photos for the latest CarTech book project. If I survive that, I’ll return in the nick of time to announce a nostalgia drag race at my home track, Champion Raceway (the Julian Gonsalves Memorial Race on August 4th – BE THERE!!!). The next day, it’s off to Nebraska (the Beef State) for more photos and a side trip to the Sand Hills Open Road Challenge, where I’ll be crewing in support of my nephew’s ZO6 Corvette 200 MPH quest. Look for a blog post on that adventure. From Nebraska, my brother Wayne and I head to Bonneville for magazine coverage of Speed Week. I’ll also likely be crewing on the Johnson & Johnson Berkeley again and may be driving the Spirit of South Dakota lakester, as well. Then we’ll continue on to some fish-out-of-water surrealism at the Pebble Beach Concourse D’ Elegance, followed by a tour of Bay Area speed shops for yet more photos and shenanigans. I’m already looking forward to the write-up on Pebble Beach. Heh, heh… At that point, it’s back to Oregon to catch my breath at a couple of local events before blasting off to the SEMA show in Las Vegas, followed by the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion at Bakersfield. That’s my itinerary as of today, which is subject to change without notice.
Hmmm... I left it in here somewhere...
And for the first time in a couple of years, I’m actually looking forward to winter this year: The Model A roadster project that I put in mothballs fifteen years ago has recently been resuscitated and I’m stoked to drive it on next year’s road adventures. Oh yeah, the other thing that makes winter bearable: GO DUCKS!!! All of this, to explain that my blog time has been reduced, as gas prices fall. Life is good. I hope to see you somewhere out there on the wide open road. If not, check in here periodically for updates and the occasional informative post. Meanwhile, just remember, the key to returning America to greatness is to buy CarTech books and subscribe to Hot Rod Deluxe magazine! You know it’s the right thing to do.
Until next time, take care of each other. And drive like the wind!
Scotty
Sounds like a busy summer! Keep the shiney side up.
